At the molecular level, varied materials have different properties. The molecular forces in Pipe Break are high in molecular adhesion. The molecules are attracted to other molecules, like rust, so it spreads fast. Put a drop on a rusty part and you can just see it quickly spread off to the sides of where the drop was applied. Cohesive molecules tend to stick to themselves and not spread.

Creep

Creep is the ability to spread and get into places at the molecular level. One way to see this is if you put a rusty bolt in some Pipe Break, the penetrating oil will climb up the threads. If you put it on top of a threaded bolt, it will work its way down in between the nut and the bolt.

Viscosity

Pipe Break is not “thick,” so it flows well. It is formulated to be very thin with low viscosity which means that it flows well and works into all the tight places. It must be this way in order for it to carry the active ingredient to the point of contact where it needs to unstick the stuck parts.

Breaking down molecular bonds both between metal-to-metal contact and metal-to-rust, Pipe Break loosens the area to get it moving. Rust is rough, gritty and hard. The result is both the nut is easier to break free and, when undoing it the rest of the way, it will unscrew easier when the Pipe Break penetrating oil is sprayed on the threads.

Pipe Break fights rust at the molecular bond level. It does not dissolve the rust - it breaks it down, but softens it so parts welded together by rust can then be moved.

Lubrication

The lubrication helps get the parts free and then also has a protective quality to help prevent and slow rust from reforming. You can prove it for yourself by repeated applications on a very smooth surface. A slight stickiness will develop and can be cleaned off, like when it is used as a gun oil.
